Singer- songwriter Rodriguez will play shows around Australia in addition to the BluesFest gig at Byron Bay.
Rodriguez, who recorded his debut album ‘Cold Fact’ 40 years ago, has shows planned for Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide on this upcoming visit.Sixto Rodriguez is somewhat of an enigma in the music industry. He has only even made two studio albums. The second album ‘Coming From Reality’ was released in 1971.
The two albums had little impact in their day but when Sydney radio broadcaster Holger Brockman began playing Rodriguez on his 2 Double J program in the mid 70s, Rodriguez became a cult star in Australia.
Rodriguez came out of obscurity and toured Australia in 1979 and 1981.
In 2002, his song ‘Sugar Man’ was included on David Holmes mix album ‘Come Get It I Got It’ and Triple J got behind him once again. The song was also included in the 2006 movie ‘Candy’ starring Heath Ledger.
