The funeral of Birthday Party / Boys Next Door guitarist Rowland S. Howard will take place in St Kilda in Thursday, January 7.
Howard died of liver cancer on December 30 after being diagnosed with the disease one year earlier.Right up to his death, Rowland had gigs booked but had to cancel shows in December when his condition worsened.
Rowland Stuart Howard was born on October 24, 1959. In 1978, he teamed up with the equally young and unknown Nick Cave in Boys Next Door. They had an underground hit with the song ‘Shiver’, later covered by Screaming Jets and made into a major Australian hit.
Boys Next Door changed their name to The Birthday Party in 1980 and relocated to London.
Just this year, Howard released his second solo album ‘Pop Crimes’.
The service for Rowland S. Howard will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in Grey St, St Kilda at 3pm on Thursday.
