`Ghost Brothers of Darkland Country`, a musical by horror writer Stephen King and singer / songwriter John Mellencamp, will debut in Atlanta in September 2010.
Word of the project first surfaced almost 10 year ago. By 2005, Mellencamp said he had written 15 songs for the show and King had written hundred pages of dialogue.Mellencamp has previously said in interview that it will not be “Jack & Diane meets Cujo”, a reference to one of his big hits and King’s horror classic. It is about two brothers who despise each other and discover that their father had two older brothers who also hated each other and killed each other in a cabin. The ghosts of the father’s brothers then haunt the sons.
Mellencamp has been working on a soundtrack album to be released before the show’s premiere. It will feature appearances from Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow and Kris Kristofferson. It will be available as a book and 3CD set with the entire show on two discs and a compilation of the songs on the other.
Both Mellencamp and King are in the cast.
‘Ghost Brothers of Darkland County’ will premiere at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta in September, 2010.
