Australian Radio Does A Magnificent Job Of Ignoring Australia Talent In 2009

Australian radio appears to have gone out of its way to ignore Australia music in 2009.

According to AirCheck, the company that registers Australian spins, only “Foreign Land’ by Eskimo Joe made the Top 10 played songs on Australian radio during 2009. For the top 20, add in Evermore ‘Hey Boys & Girls’ at number 16 and Wes Carr ‘Feels Like Woah’ at 17.

Pull back for a view of the Top 40 most played songs on Australian radio in 2009 and you only get to add two more Aussie additions, ‘She’s A Genius’ by Jet at 30 and ‘Like It Like That’ by Guy Sebastian at 33.

Not one song or Australian artist in the most played 40 songs on Australian radio in 2009 even won an ARIA Award. Australian radio is completely out of whack with the Australian music industry. Empire of the Sun, the big stars of the 2009 ARIA Awards, registered way down at number 124 most played song of the year for ‘Walking On A Dream’.

The Temper Trap, one of the Australian international success stories of 2009, did not even make the Top 100 list of songs spun on Australian radio not did Jimmy Barnes who had a number one album.

AirCheck compiled the airplay list from spins at SAFM, 5MMM, MIX 102, NOVA 919, 5AA, CRUISE, B105, 4MMM, NOVA 1069, 973, 4BH, 4BC, 4KQ, SEA 909, GOLD 925, HOT-TOMATO, NOVA 100, FOX, 3MMM, MIX 101, GOLD, VEGA 915, SEN, 3MP, SPORT927, 3AW, MAGIC, TRIPLEJ, 92.9, MIX 94.5, 96FM, NOVA 937, 6PR, 6IX, 2DAYFM, 2MMM, NOVA 969, MIX 106, WS-FM, 2GB, 2UE, 2CH, VEGA 953, 2SM, 2KY, EDGE, FBi
