The Shins front man James Mercer and renowned beat-master Danger Mouse have finally revealed their long rumoured collaboration - an album due out early next year.
The pair met at Denmark’s Roskilde festival as long as five years ago, but took until March 2008 to get the ball rolling. That ball, however, was rolling pretty slowly, considering the result will be around two years after the initial jam session.“We wanted to be in our own little world for this thing,” Danger Mouse told Rolling Stone, “and it worked.”
That world was Danger Mouse’s home studio in Los Angeles, where Mercer perched himself for weeks on end. Danger Mouse is quick to note that this is a proper band, not just a collaboration - they’re just a duo.
“We’d never worked together before, but then we did one song and it was great,” he told the magazine.
The first single will be a song called ‘The High Road’, which will appear on the band’s official website on Monday (Dec 21).
The album, which is yet to be named, will be released by Colombia Records early next year.
