Fans can pay 400,000 yen (around $US3,400) for the privilege of being in the vicinity of Michael Jackson at a Christmas party in Tokyo.
Jackson won't even be singing at the December 19 event, dubbed 'Premium Christmas Party'. We're unsure if 'Premium' is a sponsor, or merely the kind of inappropriate adjective generally favoured by the Japanese.Fans who fork out 200,000 yen get food, drinks and a signed photo of the dethroned king of pop.
Promoter Misaki Hayashi said, "He had a good feeling when he came to Japan last May for the music video awards . So I'm sure he wanted to come back to Japan as soon as possible."
Jackson said he was "looking forward to visiting Japan again, and greeting my fans and friends."
It's probably a good thing that Jackson won't be singing at Premium Christmas Party, considering his disastrous performance at the World Music Awards in London last week. With fans expecting him to perform 'Thriller', the best Jackson could muster was a few lines from the chorus of 'We Are The World'.
