The Susan Boyle `I Dreamed A Dream` sold around 410,000 units in the UK in the last week.
At 410,000 sales, the Boyle album is already the fastest selling album of the year.Only three other albums have sold faster than ‘I Dreamed A Dream’, Oasis holds the record with ‘Be Here Now, followed by Oasis ‘X&Y’ and Take That ‘The Circus’ but the Boyle album is the fastest selling album for a debut artist, beating Leona Lewis and Arctic Monkeys.
In the USA, Boyle is on track to beat Eminem’s ‘The Relapse’ as fastest selling album of the year. It is expected to sell more than 625,000 units.
The album also debuted at number one in Australia this week with sales of 26,474 units. That in itself is an impressive figure as ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ did not even air in Australia nor was Boyle played on radio. Her Australian success is totally due to online impact only.
How does ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ sales compare to this time last year? Well, the number one album on December 1, 2008 was Pink ‘Funhouse’ with sales of 27,184.
