Morrissey has called he act of self destruction “honourable”.
In an interview with the BBC he responded to the question "Have you thought about being in control of your death? Have you thought about shuffling off this mortal coil at a time of your own choosing?" by saying “Yes, I have. I think self-destruction in honourable.”“I always thought it was. It’s an act of great control and I understand people who do it.”
The comments were made in an interview with Kirsty Young.
Speaking of his upbringing in Manchester, he told Young; "Naturally, I'm quite separate. I was considered to be unbalanced, which helped me greatly. It confirmed to me... I didn't want to grow up to be anything I knew, I wanted a completely different life, whatever that entailed.
"I have always had a fear of normality. I didn't want the norm in any way, and I didn't get it. And I'm glad, very glad indeed. I'm waiting to explode, I don't want to settle down until I'm carried out feet first."
Later he mentioned that "nothing” comforts him and “the world is a mesmerising mess and human beings are mesmerising messes.”
Come here Morrissey, let me give you a hug.
