Amy Winehouse had the tabloid media eating their words at last night's Mercury Music Prize, performing the stand-out set of the ceremony.
With segments of the voracious UK press intent on manufacturing the self-destruction of the drug-troubled singer, a healthier looking Winehouse belted out a stripped back version of 'Love Is A Losing Game' from her 'Back To Black' album. The performance received the most enthusiastic applause of the evening, with host Jools Holland declaring Winehouse of being in possession of "one of the best voices of anybody of all time."
Husband Blake Fielder-Civil, whose battle with drugs has also been well publicised, and father Mitch greeted Winehouse with open arms when she returned to their table.
Winehouse's album was beaten by Klaxons' 'Myths Of The Near Future' for the evening's main prize.
