Adelaide hip hop sensation Hilltop Hoods have snared an imposing six gongs at 2006's Dance Music Awards.
Australia's longest running awards event for the dance sector, the DMAs were held at Sydney's Home club on November 17. The general public was invited for the first time to rub shoulders with industry types and see the awards being dished out, alongside live performances from Sneaky Sound System, Midnight Juggernauts, Deepchild, Stafford Brothers, Nik Fish, Amber Savage and heaps more. But Hilltop Hoods remain the big stars of the night. After winning two ARIAs recently, they left the DMAs with Best Live Act, Best Hip Hop Act, Best Single and Album for 'The Hard Road' and MC Suffa from the group won Best Producer and Best Remix. Their label, Obese, won Best Independent Label as well.
But the Australian dance community doesn't just consist of one hip hop act, no matter how huge their year has been. Best Debut Artist went to Melbourne's dark electro duo Midnight Juggernauts. Best Urban Artist somehow by-passed the Adelaide crew and went to Kid Confucius. Best DJ went to Ajax and Best Turntablist went to Dexter from The Avalanches.
