In a day and age when stars are forced to apologise to the public for inappropriate broadcasting, watering down the ballsiness of their otherwise respectable body of work, who should we turn to for some good old fashioned punk rock mischief? Why, American Idol of course!
American Idol star Adam Lambert has refused to apologise for a TV stunt which saw him simulate oral sex with a male dancer at the American Music Awards, which was broadcast across America.“You know honestly, if I offended some people it’s apples and oranges,” he told Access Hollywood.
“I’m not an artist that does things for every single person, I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honouring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either.”
He also claimed it was discrimination when broadcaster ABC cut out the parts in question for the show’s west coast broadcast.
The openly gay Lambert also kissed his male keyboardist, grabbed his crotch and stuck his middle finger up at the cameras all during his performance of ‘For Your Entertainment’.
It was the first television appearance since he was booted off the eighth series of American Idol.
Earlier this year Rob Zombie commented to E-Online about Lambert, saying “I'm sure Adam can fucking sing 10 times better than Mick Jagger, but who gives a shit? He ain't fucking Mick Jagger. You know what I mean? There are probably a million guitar players in the world better than Keith Richards, but they ain't fucking Keith Richards.”
But when Adam Lambert is pulling stunts reminiscent of The Doors deliberately sticking two metaphorical fingers up at the television censors by singing the ‘Light My Fire’ line “Girl you couldn’t get much higher” on the Ed Sullivan show in 1967, while The Rolling Stones continue to tour the world sponsored by credit cards and soft drinks and having their lyrics censored whilst playing at the Superbowl just one year after the infamous “nipplegate” incident, you really have to wonder just who is more relevant?
Adam Lambert clawed his way through a deplorable bastardisation of a talent contest and then tells millions of viewers to fuck right off (my words, not his) if they don’t like him. Sure, Adam, I can’t stand your watered down pop crap, but sticking up for what you believe in? That’s something I can get behind.
