Australia has lost one of its television greats. Don Lane has died at the age of 75.
The New York born entertainer emigrated to Australia in 1965, originally as a fill-in on Channel 9 for 6 weeks. He stayed for a lifetime.The Don Lane Show became an essential stop for international entertainers. Everyone from Abba to Tom Waits appeared on the show.
After the show ended in 1983, Lane moved to sports and hosted American NFL on ABC through the 90s.
Lane died after a battle with Alzheimers. He had been living in a care facility in Sydney since last year. His ex-wife Jayne Ambrose and son PJ were with him at the time of his death.
