Francis Rossi from Status Quo is as big a Muse fan as Muse are of Status Quo. Muse have played Status Quo`s `Burning Bridges` in concert and Rossi loves them.
“To me that band makes an incredible noise and how they control it is phenomenal in itself the way they manage to stick a melody in there every time,” he tells Undercover Music News. “I love them to death. They should have been terminated a long time ago. We can’t have that kind of competition”.Younger bands looking up to Status Quo comes as somewhat of surprise for Rossi. “I take that as a compliment if people have been inspired by us,” he says. “We just do what we do and we have to like it. If other people can take something from that it’s fabulous. More people want to be Pink Floyd. I don’t think many people aspire to be Status Quo or play our sort of music. However, there must be some out there because they do”.
Status Quo hold the record for hit singles in the UK. They have had 75. “It's a strange business. We are very lucky to have done that and got that far,” he says. “All we ever wanted when we were 18 and had our first single was a long career. We kept our heads down and kept going and kept going but it’s still not enough. Whether we are trying to prove something to somebody, I don’t know. You just keep going”.
Status Quo will return to Australia in 2010.
