Lucy O`Donnell, the childhood friend of John Lennon`s son Julian, and the girl who inspired the Beatles song `Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds`, has died in London at the age of 46.
The popular theory about the song was that John Lennon wrote it about the drug L.S.D. and used “Lucy”, “Sky” and ‘Diamonds” as a disguise for the song. That was not true. Lennon stated latter that he wrote the song after his son Julian showed him a drawing he made at school about his friend Lucy.
In a 2007 BBC documentary, Lucy said “Julian had painted a picture and on that particular day his father turned up with the chauffeur to pick him up from school.”
Lucy Vodden, as she was known now, died after a long battle with the autoimmune disease lupus.
The Beatles song ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ was first released in 1967 on the ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album.
