The Boy Friend, that iconic British stage show from 1954, has been recreated by the Production Company in Melbourne for a limited season.
The musical was written by Sandy Wilson who set the story on the French Riviera in the roaring 20’s.. Julia Andrews was 19-years old when she made her Broadway debut in the lead role of Polly Browne. The Melbourne production was made possible because of Jeanne Pratt AC, who as Chairman and founder of the Production Company has been the matriarch of live theatre productions in Melbourne since starting the company in 1999.
The Boy Friend is the second of the three musicals the Production Company will produce in 2009.
This new version of the show stars Rhonda Burchmore as Madame Burchmore and Tim Campbell as Bobby Van Husen with Esther Hannaford as Polly Browne, Alex Rathgeber as Tony as well as Christie Whelan, Grant Smith, Robyn Arthur, Robert Grubb and Kellie Rode.
The Boy Friend finishes today after a 6 show run.
The next show for the Production Company will be Dirty Rotten Scoundrels from September 30 to October 4.
