The stage show written by Bono and The Edge about Spiderman is facing financial troubles.
The show, due to open on Broadway in New York in March next year, has been halted due to investment problems. The U2 duo have written the words and music for Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark, which is being tipped as one of the most elaborate ever staged with costs expected to be between £30m and $45m.
But according to Variety, work on the show has now been postponed because of cashflow issues.
The trade magazine reported: "The halt is attributed to cashflow obstacles that producers, are working to resolve."
Those backing the show have insisted that the show is still on course to open.
Variety added: "Others attached to 'Spider-Man' acknowledge the funding hiccup, but believe the situation will be resolved without forcing a disruption of the musical's launch."
No one has yet been cast to play the half-man, half-arachnid superhero, but Marilyn Manson's former girlfriend, actress Evan Rachel Wood, is set to play love interest Mary Jane, while Scottish actor Alan Cumming will take the role of the villain, The Green Goblin.
