U2 are preparing three albums – a rock disc, a club collaboration disc, and the Spiderman musical songs.
In an interview with The Age, Bono confessed that the band are currently in a creative purple patch, with three new projects on the go.
The first album, that was mooted to be released “sooner than anyone thinks” by their manager Paul McGuinness, will be due early next year.
The band worked with uber-producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton, best known for his work as half of Gnarls Barkley and Broken Bells) on “about 12 songs”.
The next project is a club-inspired album; the band working with Will.I.Am, French DJ David Guetta and Lady Gaga’s songwriting pal RedOne.
The final one might take a bit of convincing to get off the ground. Bono and The Edge are purportedly trying to sell the idea of 20 tracks for their Spiderman Broadway stage show to Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr as a U2 album.
Bono told The Age, “We're experimenting to discover different sides to us, and I think we're at one of those moments. We're fighting for relevance. Being successful is a lot easier than being relevant.”
“We may be about to do our best-ever album or we may be about to be irrelevant.”
