Paula Abdul has left American Idol, announcing it to the world via twitter.
“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol,” she said (with translation from twitterspeak to English by me - hey, I do it too!). “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon.“What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month.
“I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”
Abdul has been on the show for eight years, but recently reports were suggesting she would not return for the ninth season.
Idol host Ryan Seacrest twirped up a couple of hours later, adding his two cents, saying (again, translated into regular English), “...about to go to sleep when I started seeing my Blackberry blow up. I have read what you have read and I am shocked and saddened about Paula.
“Idol and the cast have grown with each other over the last eight seasons. I can't imagine the panel without Paula. She's a star @ [I think he means “and”] a great friend.”
There is no word on a replacement for Abdul as of yet, but here is a random fact for you. In writing this story I had a listen to ‘Opposite’s Attract’; Abdul’s 1990 hit single with the cool animated video and somehow managed to remember almost every word to that song.
Oops? Did I just tell you all that?
