Bravo, Channel 10. While Austereo is still procrastinating in the boardroom debating damage control from the Kyle Sandilands train wreck, 10 was quick to react and dump for breakfast show presenter from Australian Idol.
Channel 10’s David Mott announced the dumping of Sandilands in Channel 10 news tonight. "Idol is a family program. We consider this a very serious incident and our executives will continue discussions over the weekend to come to a decision regarding his future on Idol."Sandilands was making around $3.5m a year for his act. Idol was worth about $1m a year. His Austereo salary, according to 10 News, was $2m a year plus bonuses.
Austereo has not announced the termination of Sandilands’ contract. Instead, the official word is that the show is in recess.
The radio stunt has turned ugly, not just for Sandilands but for the Austereo Radio Network. The treat from advertisers to abort the network has made management nervous. Today the Austereo share price closed down on its opening price.
There is no word if Sandilands has officially left the building. Instead Austereo only statement to date is:
“Kyle Sandilands' management has advised Austereo that he is unable to perform his duties on-air at this time. Further, following a great deal of consideration and having consulted Jackie O and all stakeholders, Austereo has formed the view that it is in the interest of all parties, for the Kyle & Jackie O Show to go into recess until we have completed an across-the-networks review of the principles and protocols of our interaction with our audience”.
