Inertia Records in Sydney has put together a Beasts of Bourbon box set featuring the first three albums from the seminal Australian band.
The box features ‘The Axeman’s Jazz’ (1984), ‘Sour Mash’ (1988) and ‘Black Milk’ (1990).The three albums have been digitally remastered. The box also includes a 32-page booklet featuring liner notes from the members of the band.
‘The Axeman’s Jazz’ was recorded in October 1983 at Paradise Studios in Woolloomooloo for $100. The producer was Tony Cohen (Hunters & Collectors, The Birthday Party).
The Beasts of Bourbon could have been a one-shot after disbanding at the end of 1983. Boris Sudjovic and Kim Salmon went off and did their thing as The Scientists and Spencer Jones revved up The Johnnys. However in 1987, both of those bands broke up and The Beasts of Bourbon reunited. ‘Sour Mash’ was released in 1988.
In 1990, ‘Black Milk’ followed and marked the last album BoB album with the original line-up.
The Beasts of Bourbon box will be released on August 15th on Interia’s new Provenance label.
