There is some movement in the Soundgarden camp at the moment but it falls short of using the word `reunion`.
Chris Cornell has confirmed to Rolling Stone that the band has regrouped on a business level to discuss their legacy and work on some new compilations. If you recall back to 1997 when Soundgarden released the compilation album ‘A-Sides’ it was mooted at the time that a B-sides album would follow soon after.
12-years down the track, it is finally being planned for.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, singer Chris Cornell confirmed, “The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have. This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. We all feel it’s time to do that, and we have a lot of fans out there, and we have a lot of new fans discovering our music, and I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out.”
There is no word of a reunion to accompany the release, not even a one-off, but Cornell did not disregard the idea. “You never know,” he said.
In more recent activity the other Soundgarden members got together to perform in a Washington club with grunge rocker Tad doing the vocals.
It would be good timing for everyone if it happens. Cornell’s solo career never took off. His last album ‘Scream’, produced by Timbaland was a disaster.
Soundgarden never had a farewell tour. After the Big Day Out tour of Australia in 1997, they had one final gig in Honolulu on the way home. It was the last time Soundgarden ever played as Soundgarden. That was February 9, 1997. On April 9, 1997, they announced that it was officially over.
