300 pieces were created for the Michael Jackson merch stands.Jackson wanted a premium range of products made available for the fans. You will be able to buy everything from a replica of the jacket he wore in the Thriller video through to a tea set.
The merchandise could potentially make more money than the tickets in the light of his death. Now instead of just being available at the shows, the merch will be sold in department stores across the world. In the USA, Target, Hot Topic, Spencer’s Gifts and JC Penney are already taking orders.
Target expects to have the first batch of t-shirts on sale before the end of this month.
Items include a ‘Who’s Bad’ belt-buckle, knapsacks, wallets, sunglasses and board games.
AEG Live, the company that was putting on the tour, has also had an unexpected revenue windfall. About half the people who paid for tickets for the tour have applied for a refund.
AEG Live offered fans the chance for a full refund or not get a refund and keep the tickets.
