South Australian folk legends The Audreys are re-releasing both of their ARIA award winning albums on limited edition vinyl.
The records will be in stores this weekend, or you can order them directly from the band’s website by clicking here. Both albums won the Best Blues and Roots ARIA award after they were released and were enormously successful across Australia and spawned tracks such as ‘Banjo and Violin’, ‘You and Steve McQueen’ and ‘Paradise City’ as well as a widely loved version of the INXS track ‘Don’t Change’.
"Honestly, it's because we are all total audiophiles and we loved the thought of owning our own records on vinyl,” vocalist Taasha Coates told Undercover when asked why they’re going with vinyl.
“It started as an idea over a few drinks and incredibly the label went along with it. We'd only made one video for our second record and plans were kicking around for a second, but we took the opportunity to do something different.”
“CD's sales are on the decline world-wide but vinyl sales are on the way back up. I think this is really interesting,” guitarist Tristan Goodall added. “The size and tactile nature of a record, to say nothing of the pure listening pleasure, is particularly suited to our genre as well. Our peers in the states are releasing on vinyl these days with much success and we're looking forward to seeing if Australian fans of our style of music will embrace it. Oh, and you can't press shuffle on a record player.”
Vinyl releases aren’t just a case of ringing up the vinyl cutters and sending off the tapes either, things have to be redesigned and remastered.
“It's been a long process and we are all getting our copies in just a couple of days, which is really exciting,” Coates explains. “Maybe we’ll just fondle the artwork and listen to a track or two.”
“All the artwork had to be re-designed to suit the new layout which was quite a lot of work,” Goodall said. “Album covers used to be a real art form but it's hard to get as worked up about a 5 inch CD case. Next record we'll release on vinyl at the same time as the CD version, assuming people dig it of course.”
The band are currently writing their third album, but there is no word on any release date as of yet.
