French conductor Paul Mauriat has passed away in Perpignan, France, at the age of 81.
Mauriat was known worldwide for his most famous piece, the 1968 instrumental hit 'Love Is Blue'. The song was a number one hit in the USA and Australia.Mauriat had not performed since 1998 but his orchestra has continued to travel the world.
Amongst his accomplishments, Mauriat was the composer for the weather report of Russian television. He also arranged 130 songs for French superstar Charles Aznavour.
He was the composer of the French song 'Chariot' which was translated into the English hit 'I Will Follow Him' for Little Peggy March. Whoopi Goldberg made the song famous again in the 90's when she used it in her movie 'Sister Act'.
Mauriat also earned income from Eminem. The rap superstar also used some bars of 'I Will Follow Him' in his song 'Guilty Conscience'.
