This week in Australia, major retail chain JB Hi-Fi announced that it would no longer stock CD singles. Online retailer Chaos.com was quick to open its doors to the orphan format and give the CD single a new home.
Rob Appel, CEO of Chaos Music today announced, "We are finding that physical sales of CD Singles, and in fact all formats, are continuing to grow online. 2009 sales of physical product are up 20% on 2008 which was also a growth year. It seems clear that people still want these formats but are opting for the convenience and savings of online shopping. The CD Single is particularlypopular with online collectors and avid fans."
Appel points out the convenience of shopping online from home for music and as an online retailer is not restricted by the problem of available floor-space that the bricks and mortar retailers encounter.
In the wake of the death of the CD single at JB Hi-Fi, Chaos.com has instigated the ‘We Love Singles’ campaign.
Chaos.com was established in 1995 and offers a catalogue of more than 1 million CDs, DVDs, games, books and products.
The site also features alert services so that music fans can be notified of new music from their favourite artists when it is released.
As an online retailer, Chaos.com also has the advantage of being able to service the planet.
