The single from Idol winner Wes Carr is retailing for $8.99. Okay, I get it, it is an early April Fool`s joke. Right?
9 bucks for a frigging single? Who is kidding whom here?Physical sales for CD singles are heading to extinction. We know that. The CD accounted for just 20% of sales of this week’s Top 10 and about 16.5% of the Top 20.
Paying $8.99 for a four-song CD is not only ridiculous. It’s a blatant rip-off.
Wes Carr fans emailed Undercover after our story earlier this week about the relatively poor sales of the ‘You’ single. They correctly pointed out that the song was not yet available on CD, only as a download.
Undercover research then revealed a physical single would not have greatly affected the sales. In the best-case scenario with a 20% boost from the physical sale, ‘You’ would stayed either where it was this week, or may have jumped one place.
If ‘You’ is going to stand any chance of improving its first week’s sales figures, then you can be sure that the $8.99 price-tag is going to extinguish that chance.
We are talking one newly recorded song and three covers lifted directly from a TV show.
$8.99 for a Wes Carr single is total bullshit.
Shame on yet another Idol rip-off.
