As previously reported, John Butler is updating his John Butler Trio with a couple of new musicians and has a new album in the works.
Nicky Bomba will join the band on drums and Byron Luiters will be the new bass player. Bomba comes from a number of Melbourne bands, including his self-named Bomba, as well as having played with Butler before on his five times platinum album ‘Sunrise Over Sea’.Luiters joins the band from Sydney based outfit Ray Mann Three.
“Over the last twelve years of the JBT, I have been blessed with some amazing individuals,” Butler said in a statement. “All have left their legacy and have raised the musical bar of the band. With any new incarnation it has always been an honour and challenge to meet the benchmark the band has achieved artistically and take it to the next level. It’s great to be playing with Nicky again and Byron brings a whole new level of melody, funk and Mojo to the Trio. Very exciting times.”
The new trio have entered the studio and have commenced work on the next John Butler Trio album, which as of yet has no scheduled release date.
