The official cause of death for superstar Michael Jackson is being reported at cardiac arrest.
Cardiac arrest is different to a heart attack and more serious. It relates to the abrupt cessation of normal circulation of the blood due to failure of the heart to contract effectively. It is basically a choking of the heart. The heart stops working and victims need assistance with 5 minutes of it happening.A heart attack is similar in that it is generally caused when blood supply to the heart is interrupted causing some cells to die.
Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest at his Bel-Air home at about midday California time (5am East Coast Australia).
When paramedics arrived at 12.19pm, Jackson was unconscious and was given CPR.
Michael Jackson was taken by ambulance at 12.30pm to UCLA Medical Center.
The LA Times reported Jackson had died at around 3.20pm.
