Joss Stone has allegedly offered two million pounds to EMI in an attempt to get out of her four album record deal.
Stone, according to an article in the Daily Mail says she has “no working relationship” with the label and despite having sold over ten million albums, she is still withholding the master tapes for her next album ‘Colour Me Free’.The label, however, has apparently begun proceedings to get the master tapes off her, which were due at the end of last year, saying a contract is a contract.
Despite all of this, Stone says it’s the label causing the hold up. “[EMI] were supposed to be launching the album in April but now they've postponed it until July,” she told the Daily Mail. “They really need to pull their finger out. I've worked very hard on this record and I don't know what the plans are until EMI confirm a release date.”
In recent years EMI has lost high profile acts such as Paul McCartney and Radiohead and many other artists are unhappy with the way their label is performing.
The label has been sent into disrepute by their own artists comments ever since private equity firm Terra Firma, lead by Guy Hands, took over the company in 2007.
Her contract was for 7.5 million pounds and was for four albums.
