After Simon and Garfunkel broke worldwide with the `Sounds of Silence` album earlier in 1966 there was no turning back. 10 months later they released another album `Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme`.
The impact of this album was immediate, thanks to track 1, ‘Scarborough Fair’.Who knows what was when by the lyrics “Are you going to Scarborough Fair/parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme’. Paul Simon based the song on a traditional English ballad. The song itself dates back to the year 1650. Some think the lyrics was simple nonsense just to make the words rhyme.
Two other highlights of the album and staples of the Simon & Garfunkel setlist today are ‘Homeward Bound’ and ‘The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin Groovy).
Trivia: As well as Simon & Garfunkel, the session featured Joe South on guitar on each track. He later had his own solo success with songs like ‘Games People Play’ and ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’.
