Devo founder Mark Mothersbaugh has an art exhibition coming up in New Jersey.
Mothersbaugh’s art works will be displayed at the Parlor Gallery at Asbury Park on May 15 and 16.During his time with Devo, Mark began his own postcards to send to friends and family. He has been creating his mini-artworks now for more than 30 years.
The art was originally designed as his personal diary and never intended for public exhibition, but that changed when friends suggested he tour the work as an exhibition.
In 2003, he launched his Homefront Invasion tour and in 2005 had the Visual Art of Mark Mothersbaugh tour.
His 2009 gallery features limited edition prints of the original postcards. Each edition features between 3 and 20 copies, all are embossed and signed by the Devo star.
”Usually, the only way someone can get an original sketch is if I give it to them myself. I’ve sent a few in the mail, and handed others out to friends and family,” he said in a statement. “I’ve probably got around 30,000 of them filed away now....and I keep making more every day. The limited edition prints are my way of sharing these personal images with other people around the world.”
The Parlor Gallery is a 717 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park.
