Wayne `Ean` Evans, bass player for Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died from cancer at the age of 48.
A statement at the Lynyrd Skynyrd website reads, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Ean Evans. Ean put up a valiant battle with an aggressive form of cancer and he will be sorely missed by family, friends and fans”.Ean joined the band in 2001 following the death of Lean Wilkeson, who died at age 49 from of natural causes from chronic liver and lung disease. Evans was frontman for the indie band Noon. Wilkeson was a friend of his, so he stopped his own band to pick up the legacy of Wilkeson in Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Lynyrd Skynyrd had been carrying on with their 2009 with a replacement guitarist, Johnny Van Zant had been asking audiences to “pray for Ean’.
Ean leaves behind wife Eva and daughters Sydney and Andrea.
