Violence should be limited to rock concerts. When you hear about a brawl at a Metallica gig you do not even think twice about it. When you hear about it at a Katie Melua gig, you go what tha f***.
Katie Melua played in Los Angeles last night but the show turned ugly. “Two white-haired old ladies had a fight. No shit,” Katie’s manager Mike Batt said in a Twitter posting. “One got ‘glassed’ by the other,” he said.Katie in in L.A. for the launch of her third album ‘Pictures.
She will spend the next month touring across the country and has already sold out Chicago.
24-year old Katie was born in Kutaisi in the Soviet Union.
When she was 14, the family relocated to England where she was discovered by songwriter Mike Batt and signed to his Dramatico label.
In 2003, she released her debut album ‘Call off the Search’. which sold 1.8 million units in the UK alone.
The second album ‘Piece by Piece’ was released in 2006. It went four times platinum.
Last year, the Sunday Times listed Katie as the seventh richest British musician under the age of 30. She has amassed a fortune reported to be worth £18 million, but lost half of her investment in the current economic downturn.
Mike Batt wrote the Art Garfunkel hit ‘Bright Eyes’. In Australia, you might know him for his epic ‘Tarot Suite’, which was used as the theme for the original Triple M radio station in Sydney in 1981.
