Georgian born (the country, not the state) Katie Melua is on a mission to set a world record, by playing the deepest gig in history.
The gig is set to take place today at the Statoil Troll Platform in the North Sea, between the United Kingdom and Scandinavia.Melua and her band have gone through intensive medical checks and undergone a crash course in emergency training... i.e. what to do if something goes horribly wrong.
It is not as simple as jumping in an elevator and pressing the "B" button, at 300ft the air pressure is many times that of being on the surface and going up or down too quickly can cause pockets of air to form in the brain, commonly known as "The Bends".
The show will be watched by rig workers and an official from Guinness World Records and will be broadcast on Norwegian TV.
