Dragon will release their first studio album since the death of Marc Hunter and first album of totally new material since `Bondi Road` 20 years ago.
Dragon today is Todd Hunter (bass), Mark Williams (vocals, guitar), Bruce Reid (guitar) and Pete Drummond (drums).The band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2008 and joined on-stage by James Reyne and Ian Moss to perform ‘April Sun In Cuba’.
Dragon formed in New Zealand in 1972 and moved to Sydney in 1975.
In the late 70s and through the 80s, Dragon were one of the most successful bands based in Australia.
The catalogue of Top 40 hits includes ‘This Time’ (26), ‘Get That Jive’ (13), ‘Sunshine’ (36), ‘April Sun In Cuba’ (2), ‘Konkaroo’ (40), ‘Are You Old Enough’ (1), ‘Still In Love With You’ (27), ‘Love’s Not Enough’ (37), ‘Rain’ (2), ‘Magic’ (33), ‘Cry’ (17), ‘Speak No Evil’ (19), ‘Dreams Of Ordinary Men’ (17), ‘Celebration’ (11) and ‘Young Years’ (18).
The Dragon line-up changed regularly and often under drastic circumstances. Original drummer Neil Storey died of a drug over-dose in 1976, keyboard player Paul Hewson died from drugs in 1985 and singer Marc Hunter lost his life to cancer in 1998.
Dragon will launch the new album at The Basement on August 13, 2009.
