Australia's country music scene was set alight this weekend when one of the grittiest stars in today's scene hit Australian shores for the first time since 1996.
The Palais Theatre in Melbourne was filled with Moody suits, embroidered shirts and dressy hats on Friday night as one of the last rebels of country music hit the stage with a two and a half hour show spanning his entire 22 year career. The Honky Tonk man waltzed on stage after his band warmed up for a couple of bars and powered through song after song after song.
The band was so tight and so punchy and the star's playing so smooth and catchy that it almost covered up the horrible harsh sound coming from Dwight's guitar.
A Dwight Yoakam show is geared towards real fans, and while it was more than a little too long for a passing fan like myself, even after two and a half hours and forty songs, including classics like 'Guitars, Caddilacs', 'Honky Tonk Man', 'Streets of Bakersfield' and a solo acoustic version of 'Long White Cadillac', a majority of the mixed crowd was on their feet cheering for more.
Fans had even traveled from as far as Adelaide to see the star, who is only hitting the East coast of Australia (Hello Lorraine and Leonie).
If you live on the east coast of Australia, you can still check him out from tonight at:
