The long-awaited debut album from Melbourne’s Blackchords will be released on Saturday.
Think of the atmospheric sounds of Radiohead mixed with the pop sensibility of Coldplay when you think of Blackchords.Blackchords has been the band to watch for some time now. Lead singer Nick Milwright has been working on these songs for a while. He wasn’t prepared to let them get away.
"I always felt bad that there are these songs that I've written and played in the past that have now just disappeared from existence cause I was never able to capture them on a record," he says at the band’s website. "So finally being able to record is almost like a spring clean. I've recorded them now and I can move on. I'm free to start working on new ideas with the knowledge that I'm not going to forget or lose these old ones cause they've finally been captured!"
The band started playing on the Melbourne circuit in 2005. Last year, Nick took off to Paris but returned to Australia earlier this year.
The official release from Dust Devil Music will be marked with an in-store appearance on Saturday at Pure Pop Records in St Kilda for Record Store Day.
The band will have their official launch gig on Friday, April 24 at the Gershwin Room in St Kilda.
