Adam Ant wants to be a star again.
He is planning to jump on the 80s reunion bandwagon with his own comeback.The Prince Charming star is hoping to enjoy the success found recently by his former chart contemporaries and is undergoing a rigourous training regime to get in shape for his return.
Adam, 54, real name Stuart Goddard, first spoke about a possible comeback last year when he said he was interested in working with the Kaiser Chiefs after they named him as one of their key influences.
His decision was further cemented when he received the Icon honour at last year’s Q Awards and was encouraged by the positive response to comeback announcements by 80s stars Spandau Ballet and Michael Jackson.
He also performed a one-man show at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London last year to enthusiastic reviews.
After seeing Jackson’s tour sold out in two hours and Spandau Ballet’s in 20 minutes. Goddard hopes to enjoy similar success and has entered into talks with media consultancy the Outside Organisation in a bid to revive his career.
A spokesman for Outside said: 'We have had a couple of meetings with him and he looks in great shape. He is still an impressively handsome man and has clearly been working out.
'It is too early to say what will happen but there is a lot of love out there for Adam.'
But promoters and publicists will be hoping his highly-publicised problems are well behind him before backing his chart return.
In 2002 he managed to avoid a jail sentence after waving a fake pistol through a pub window in Kentish Town, north London, when an Old Bailey judge let him go free after hearing he had a temporary mental disorder.
The following year he was sectioned and spent six months in psychiatric care after he attacked a neighbour's patio with a shovel.
But sources said the twice-divorced star is determined to move away from the recent past and recapture his glory years.
One said: "There is obviously a public appetite for the showbiz comeback and this really would be a great one if he pulls it off.'
Adam & The Ants had two number Number One hits in 1981, 'Stand And Deliver' and 'Prince Charming', while Adam Ant went on to have a solo Number One the following year with 'Goody Two Shoes'.
