Smiths drummer Mike Joyce has paid tribute to Manchester legend Johnny Roadhouse, founder and owner of Johnny Roadhouse Music; a musical instrument shop on Oxford Road, Manchester.
“Every single band in Manchester has gone through Johnny Roadhouse Music at some stage - it’s impossible not to.“Music shops come and go, but Johnny Roadhouse stays. It’s synonymous with Manchester music.”
Roadhouse’s career has included gigs with Elton John and Bob Hope before opening his shop who’s customers included Sir Paul McCartney and Oasis (who paid tribute to the shop in their animated video ‘The Masterplan’).
He died in his sleep on Saturday morning following an unspecified short illness at Manchester Infirmary.
He was 88 years old.
