Frank Black has said that The Pixies will attempt to record new material early next year.
The news comes despite Black's assertion earlier this year that he had abandoned attempts at writing new Pixies tunes. He told Uncut magazine at the time, "I wish it could go a bit further again and we could make a record. Not all of the band-members are willing to do that. Rather than make a big deal out of it, we've agreed to just continue to play live."Now, it would seem that merely playing live isn't enough for the enigmatic alt-rock pioneers. Black told NME, "I know we like playing and everyone likes touring together, so to keep doing that and not record anything is kind of like being a county fair band.
"We don't want to do that, so the only thing we can do is become a vital band again. So it's just a matter of doing it, I guess."
He may still have some trouble convincing reclusive bassist Kim Deal to rejoin the fray, however. "We're rehearsing in January, if we can persuade Kim to come out of her house," Black said. "We offered to go to her but we figured if we book the rehearsals she'll show up."
