With Record Store Day Australia fast approaching, Undercover sat down with Suggs from Madness to hear his story about his record store shopping experiences.
“My earliest recollection of record shops was a place in Camden Town,” he tells Undercover. “It was Honest John’s. It really was a treasure trove of interesting stuff. The greatest thing was for me as a kid in London, I mean it was a great time for music, the late 70s, early 80s for sure, but it was also was a time when music wasn’t on demand. You had to go and find it. You would often go into a number of record shops trying to find something obscure you heard played in a club the night before. Then the unbridled joy of finding it was a distinct part of the process. I remember it very clearly”.Record Store Day Australia will take place on April 18 with more than 300 record stores contributing to the event.
