Record Store Day Australia is coming up on April 18 with artists going into store nationwide to perform, sign and meet the fans.
wo artists who very much recall the thrill of the record store day shop are Little Birdy’s Katy Steele and Paul Mac.“When I was growing up in Perth 78 Records was THE place to buy records,” Katy says. “There is something really cool about physically going into a store and not knowing what you are going to come out with”.
“Nothing beats seeing all the awesome cover art displayed across the walls. I tend to take more of a gamble if im actually in a store sifting through albums vs if im 'shopping' online. It just makes the experience so much more real”.
Paul Mac says, “The thing I love most about going into my local record shop (which fortunately happens to be run by two cool dudes with impeccable taste) is that discovery of stuff I wasn’t thinking about. It could be a disc of some band on the listening station that I’ve always wanted to check out but never got round to it, or a greatest hits of some legend you don’t have that’s only ten bucks, or just having that relationship with the staff where they know what you like and make suggestions. Yeah, there’s blogs and last fm that kinda do that, but there’s something special about sharing music live, face-to-face with a human”.
