American Idol will play host to Motown legend Smokey Robinson this week.
The show will pay tribute to 50 years of Motown and Robinson will perform on the show.Robinson is one of Motown’s biggest stars. He met Motown founder Berry Gordy in the late 1950’s. In 1960, Berry signed Smokey and the Miracles to the label.
Smokey had a string of hits for Motown including ‘Shop Around’, ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’ and ‘I Second That Emotion’. The Beatles later covered ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’ and brought Robinson’s music to the UK and Australia.
American Idol with Smokey Robinson will air Thursday night in the USA.
