The Falls Festival has been a stalwart of the Australian Festival Circuit for over a decade now, and each year they try to use their position to show the people they care.
This year, four unknown Tasmanian artists will be performing at the Marion Bay festival - The Embers, Modus, The Scientists of Modern Music and Unleash The Nugget - will all be given the chance to win over the general public. Both Tassie and Lorne are going to bring back the APRA people's stage, which gives anyone a chance to jump up, from poets to musicians, if you think you'll be drunk enough to get up in front of your peers, you can send a demo/bio to Con Kalamaras, C/ APRA, 3 & 5 Sanders Place, Richmond Vic 3121, phone 03 9426 5200 BEFORE Monday 18th December.
Please note, if you want to play there, you must already have a ticket to the festival.
Of course the Falls isn't just about unknowns, with an array of musical guests including Modest Mouse (USA); Michael Franti and Spearhead (USA), Michael Franti & Friends (Vic only); Wolfmother; Basement Jaxx (UK, full band, Vic only), The Bees (UK); The John Butler Trio; Hilltop Hoods, Eskimo Joe, Dexter, Scribe (NZ), Saul Williams (USA); The Sleepy Jackson, M. Ward (USA, full band), The Mountain Goats (USA), You Am I; The Black Seeds (NZ); Little Birdy, Matt Costa (USA); Youth Group; Jamie Lidell (UK), Josh Pyke; Custom Kings, Blue King Brown, The Audreys; Mach Pelican (Vic only), The Exploders, Dan Sultan, Jen Cloher And The Endless Sea.
Over the years, The Falls has seen bands like The Violent Femmes, Iggy Pop and Blondie bring in the new year down in Lorne, Victoria, where the festival began in 1993, and in 2003 it expanded down to Marion Bay in Tasmania, introducing hoardes of mainlanders to the southern isle.
