Silverchair have been enlisted to pay tribute to Midnight Oil at this year's ARIA Awards.
Just days after ARIA announced that the revolutionary pub rock kings were to be inducted into their Hall Of Fame, erstwhile princes of Australian pomp-rock Silverchair prepare for their new album and comeback shows with a tribute to Midnight Oil.A press release states that Daniel Johns counts sharing the Waveaid stage with Midnight Oil as one of the main catalysts behind the band returning to the studio. As for the ARIA tribute, Johns said, "The invitation to pay tribute to the Oils was just too good to refuse. They are true musical pioneers and one of the greatest Australian artists of all time."
This is the first time Silverchair have appeared at the ARIAs since 'Diorama' won them six ARIAs four years ago. At that 2002 event they performed 'The Greatest View'. They also announced in the press release that they will be showcasing new songs at their forthcoming Homebake and Pyramid festival appearances.
The ARIAs will screen on Network Ten on Sunday October 29.
