Oak Ridge Boys were previously announced as speakers at SXSW but we now hear that they will also perform.
The legendary country group will play for DirecTV in the Austin Convention Center during SXSW.The show will be filmed for DirecTV at 7pm on Thursday March 19.
Earlier that day, The Oak Ridge Boys will talk about their career at the Masters of Reinvention panel.
The Oak Ridge Boys formed in 63 years ago in 1945.
The current line-up features William Lee Golden who joined originally in 1965 and rejoined in 1995, Duane Allen who has been with the band since 1966, Richard Sterban joined in 1972 and Joe Bonsall since 1973.
Nine Oak Ridge Boys have died since the band began. Founder Wally Fowler died in 1994, longtime lead singer Smitty Gatlin died in 1972 from cancer, Cat Freeman died from a heart attack in 1989.
The band has also lost Herman Harper (1993), Joe Allred (1997), Steve Sanders (1998), Noel Fox (2003), Lon Freeman (2003) and Big Jim Hamill (2007).
While the band has had many hits on the US charts, internationally they are best known for the 1981 hit ‘Elvira’.
The Oak Ridge Boys will release their new album ‘The Boys Are Back’ in mid-2009.
