Former Snout member Ross McLennan says he was mindful of an industry in collapse as he made his latest album, so he made it for himself. The result, `Sympathy For The New World` has made the short-list for the Australian Music Prize.
“My approach with this record was that the mindset kind of collapsed,” Ross tells Undercover News. “I am pretty old as far as the industry goes so I just thought “I don’t care what anyone thinks of it”. That was my mantra, because I do care”.The evolving industry gave McLennan an opportunity to do it his way. “The effect it had on me seeing the industry change was that I was going to make the exact record I wanted to make, which is what you always set out to do. I think I felt even a bit more free than in the past”.
The Shortlist for The Amp 2008 is as follows:-
Apocalypso - The Presets
Beaches - Beaches
Havilah - The Drones

Jungle Blues - CW Stoneking
Love Is Gone - Jack Ladder
