Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork will return to the stage this November for a twelve-date tour of the USA. The performances will mark their first concerts together since 1997.
The November tour dates fall forty-five years on from their struggle to be seen as legitimate music makers. The shows include a set performed by just Nesmith, Dolenz and Tork. In 1967, the year the Monkees outsold the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, they issued two #1 albums (Headquarters
and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd) which mostly featured the Monkees as a self-contained, musical unit. The trio set to be performed art each show on the tour will showcase songs from these albums and those familiar Monkee's style electrified garage sounds developed whilst touring in the mid 60's. A stellar crew of players will join the The Monkees on stage to open and close the show with a handpicked set.
Of course these shows will be the first for Nesmith since 1969 and the first without Davy Jones after his unexpected death in February this year. Mike Nesmith has told Rolling Stone "David's presence and his past will be throughout the show. He will be missed in his absence, but very much on our minds and in our heart. We will include some of the songs he sang, and do our best."
