Based on the feedback of key music stores across Australia, Bushfire Aid will be the biggest selling album in Australia this week.
Tony Glover General Manager, Commercial Music Group, Sony Music tells Undercover News, “The response to the Bushfire Aid album after the first three days at retail has been overwhelming. Sony Music has shipped over 70,000 units and all our retail partners responded rapidly to throw their support behind this project.”The idea to use music to raise funds for the victims of the Victoria Bush Fires was championed Denis Handlin AM, Chairman and CEO of Sony Music.
“The music industry has united together to support Sony Music Bushfire Aid release,” he says. “The support of the artists, songwriters, music companies, music publishers, Sony DADC manufacturing and media partners has been fantastic.”
The support will also spread into other markets. “Sony New Zealand has committed to releasing the Bushfire Aid album and lending their support to the Bushfire appeal,” Handlin states.
One week ago, Bushfire Aid did not exist. Sony Music was working on the tracklisting as late as lunchtime last Friday.
The album was manufactured over the weekend and by Tuesday it was in store and on sale.
Undercover spoke to retailers across Australia, many of whom confirmed had re-ordered stock the following day.
All of the artists have waived their royalties to support the appeal. It is expected that the Sony Music initiative alone will add hundreds of thousands more dollars to appeal.
Buy this album and help the cause.
