Rock Star: INXS winner J.D. Fortune has revealed that he was sacked by INXS and is now living homeless in his car.
Fortune rose to fame after winning the INXS reality TV show but whatever he made from that time has all gone.“I don’t know where I am going from sofa to sofa, from night to night. I am trying to get through my life,” he told Canada’s ET.
His time with INXS came to an abrupt halt. “I was in an airport at Hong Kong and literally got a handshake. They said, “Thank you very much”. I found myself really alone because I had travelled with these guys for 23 months,” he reveals. “Some of the audiences we played for were upwards of 80,000 people”.
Despite his sudden unemployment, J.D. kept the story from his family and friends, until now. He says fans would recognise him in the street and ask for an autograph but had no idea where he was in life. “Every time I sign my name it becomes in my heart worth less. I’m very confused because when you do something like that it should be a moment of pride,” he said.
The departure from INXS may have had something to do with his excess drug use. During his time with the band, he was a cocaine user. “It got as bad as it needed to be for me to numb out the fact that I knew this was going to come to a screeching halt,” he said.
Now, he hopes for a comeback as a solo singer. Every last dollar he had went into making his new album ‘The Death of a Motivation Speaker’. The album is due for release shortly, initially through Universal Canada.
